It has been reported that Liverpool are nowhere near finalising their decision over making a move for Kalvin Phillips in January.
This comes from Fabrizio Romano on The Daily Briefing podcast after it was claimed on Tuesday that Jurgen Klopp’s side had decided to try and bring the Manchester City outcast over to Anfield.
But it seems like it would be a case of getting ahead of oneself by assuming that Liverpool have decided to target Kalvin Phillips in the January transfer window.
Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool have no plans to sign Kalvin Phillips in January yet
It was revealed on Sunday that Pep Guardiola had informed the Manchester City hierarchy that he was keen on the Englishman leaving the club.
In fact, it was even reported by Fabrizio Romano on Saturday that both the ex-Leeds midfielder and City are aware that an exit in the winter window is on the cards.
But now, it seems like even if Kalvin Phillips leaves Manchester City in January, there is no guarantee that his next destination would be Liverpool.

“As previously mentioned, it’s looking increasingly likely for Kalvin Phillips to leave Manchester City this January but I’m not aware of any negotiation with Liverpool at this stage, despite what’s been reported elsewhere”, Romano said.
“It’s very quiet around Liverpool as of now, no decision will be made in October for their transfer plans in the January window, it will be decided later this year.”
Unlikely that the Englishman is sold to Jurgen Klopp and Co
Even if the treble-winner is not deemed at the sufficient level to make the cut at the Etihad Stadium, it still seems unlikely that Manchester City would let Liverpool have a crack at turning his career around.
Alongside Arsenal, the Reds are City’s main rivals for the Premier League titles and to directly strengthen them would be a risky decision.
As a result, it would emerge as a shock if the Sky Blues decide to do business with Liverpool in this instance.
