Roy Keane was critical of Manchester City No.1 Ederson Moraes after his error led to Son Heung-min’s opener for Tottenham Hotspur.
On Sky Sports (03/12/2023), the pundit reacted after Ederson let the Spurs captain’s tame effort slip through his hands into the back of the net.
As the contest between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur ended in a dramatic 3-3 draw, perhaps the £35 million (Independent) man’s mistake will be looked at as a moment that had a huge bearing on the result.
Roy Keane blasts “awful goalkeeping” from Ederson as Manchester City drew 3-3 to Tottenham
Recently, it seems to be that the 30-year-old is getting the credit he deserves for having been a revolutionary presence in goal for City over the years.
After all, Micah Richards claimed less than a week ago that he has not seen a single goalkeeper quite like the Brazilian international in Premier League history, while Ben Foster hailed him for completely changing how No.1’s play the game alongside Alisson Becker.
But as Ederson erred for Manchester City against Tottenham on Sunday, Roy Keane had no choice but to pinpoint his error.

“City were all over the place for Spurs’ goal. The goalkeeper has to do better, he’s got to save it. It’s awful goalkeeping. As bad as they’ve been, they’ve been a threat going forward. A goalkeeper of Ederson’s quality should save it”, Keane told Sky Sports.
Ederson has made an error in two big games this season now
It is hard to disagree with Roy Keane, as Ederson should have made a routine stop to keep Son Heung-min’s effort out as Manchester City conceded a needless goal to Tottenham.
Luckily enough for the treble-winner, the South Korean international scored an own goal at the other end soon after to save his blushes.
However, this is not the first mistake Ederson has made this season, as he parried the ball into Nicolas Jackson’s path for him, gifting him an easy goal in the Sky Blues’ 4-4 draw against Chelsea this campaign.
In such high-octane affairs against top sides, the Manchester City legend must simply avoid making such mistakes, because, on both occasions, it has put unnecessary pressure on his team.
Ederson remains a world-class goalkeeper, which is perhaps why such high-profile mistakes from him come as a major surprise.
