Manchester City have been linked with transfer moves for numerous players during the current summer window.

In their previous season, Pep Guardiola’s side continued their domestic dominance by becoming the first side to win four consecutive Premier League trophies.

Regarding the names that have been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium this summer, one of them is Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich.

Back in June, it was reported by The Mirror that the German is eager to reunite with his former manager at City.

Now though, with the 29-year-old set to enter the final year of his contract at Bayern, one of the club’s key figures behind the scenes has been discussing the present situation surrounding Kimmich and his future.

Bayern Munich director discusses Joshua Kimmich situation amid Man City transfer rumours

In a recent interview with WELT am SONNTAG (via Bild), Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, had this to say about Joshua Kimmich’s current situation at the German club.

He said: “He still has a year left on his contract. We agreed that we would talk to each other after his vacation.

“Joshua is a very good player, but it is generally true that professional football is a competitive sport – we cannot say to any player per se: Hey, you are the one who is set.

“There is no doubt that Joshua has made a great contribution to FC Bayern. Nevertheless, everyone at FC Bayern has to accept the fight for a regular place.

“In general, we keep our contracts and meet our obligations. We expect the same from the players – and that includes them always giving their best performance and we demand that they are willing to play for FC Bayern and give everything for this club.”

Kimmich would be a smart signing for City

Having made 390 appearances for Bayern, scoring 42 goals and providing 104 assists along the way, this highlights the top-level experience Kimmich has and how useful he is in terms of delivering goal contributions.

With the 29-year-old, who Paris Saint-Germain also have an interest in, being able to play in numerous defensive and midfield positions, this highlights the versatility he has and what he’d be able to offer City if he does end up making a move to Manchester this summer.

Now that Eberl has failed to add any sort of certainty to the situation surrounding Kimmich and his future at Bayern, we feel that there is an opportunity for City to make what we would consider a smart move and land a possible deal for the Germany star.
