BBC pundit says £54m Man City player is up there with Sergio Aguero

Manchester City have seen many top players represent the club over the past 15 years.

One, in particular, who had a very big impact at the club during his time at the Etihad Stadium is Sergio Aguero.

Between 2011 and 2021, the former striker scored 260 goals in 390 appearances for the Blues across all competitions, making him City’s all-time record scorer and a certified club legend.

In fact, after he left the club, a statue was put up outside the Etihad to commemorate his efforts for the Blues, including scoring the historic late winner to secure them their first Premier League title back in 2012.

Now though, a pundit has claimed that one current player in Pep Guardiola’s ranks at the Manchester club could be even greater than Aguero.

Don Hutchison says Kevin De Bruyne could be Man City’s greatest ever player

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live (via BBC Sport) just minutes before City kicked off their Premier League away match against West Ham United, Don Hutchison had this to say about Kevin De Bruyne.

He said: “Kevin De Bruyne has to be in the conversation for being the greatest Manchester City player of all time.

“Last week against Ipswich he looked trim, he looked lean and he looked sharp. He has to be in that conversation.”

Kevin De Bruyne is one of City’s greatest players

City signed De Bruyne from Wolfsburg back in the 2015 summer transfer window in a deal worth a reported fee of £54m.

Since then, prior to the West Ham game, the midfielder has gone on to make 385 appearances for the Blues across all competitions.

In addition to scoring 103 goals and delivering 171 assists along the way, De Bruyne has lifted numerous trophies during his time at City including six Premier Leagues and the club’s first Champions League.

Back in February, Frank Lampard said that De Bruyne is one of the greatest midfielders in Premier League history, further highlighting his status as one of the best players England has seen.

Taking on board what he’s achieved during his time at the club, it’s hard to argue with Hutchison’s point.
