As Manchester City have seemingly failed in their transfer pursuit of Jude Bellingham, journalist Sam Lee has provided an update on the situation.
It was reported last week that despite Pep Guardiola’s side being open to paying a higher fee to sign the 19-year-old than Real Madrid, his heart was set on a move to Spain.
Considering Jude Bellingham would be the dream transfer for a majority of Manchester City fans, a fresh revelation about whether he could sign or not has come to fruition.
Sam Lee provides Jude Bellingham to Manchester City update
It was claimed on Wednesday that despite City’s desire to sign the Englishman, they are not heartbroken that he looks likely to sign for the champions of Europe.
Now, as Jude Bellingham edges closer towards a transfer to Real Madrid, Sam Lee has given an insight into how Manchester City feel ‘behind the scenes.’
“Is this different for City as well?”, he was asked.

“Yeah seemingly. They were all over [Erling] Haaland, there’s the newsline that we’ve got and the view that City are putting out behind the scenes as well that they’ve not made any approach to Bellingham or Dortmund, it’s not like a ‘well we didn’t want him anyway’ kind of thing, but it’s a normal club briefing that comes out after any club misses out on a target”, Lee said on the Athletic Football Podcast.
He further elaborated on why Manchester City could not close the transfer deal to sign Bellingham, saying, “The element of not having a release clause makes it different, because for City, it was very easy [with Haaland]. They knew what they had to pay. Working with a club that want a king’s ransom is different. The biggest difference is that it doesn’t look like they’re going to get him while they did get Haaland.”
MCN View: Manchester City know what they are doing in the market
It is only natural that fans start to panic when a transfer involving a player of the calibre of Jude Bellingham rules out a move to Manchester City.
But much like with the Harry Kane situation, the Sky Blues know how to operate in the market and ultimately have the last laugh.
The club have shown, especially during Pep Guardiola’s time in charge that their hit rate in the window is largely extremely high.
And speaking of Guardiola, there is no manager in the world capable of finding more elite tactical solutions for holes in the squad in any case.
