Ben Foster exposes one big mistake West Ham made against Man City on Saturday

Manchester City picked up their second away win of the season recently with a 3-1 victory over West Ham United.

City got themselves ahead in the 10th minute through Erling Haaland after Bernardo Silva capitalised on a mistake from the opposition before playing the striker through on goal.

Nine minutes later, Ruben Dias accidentally put the ball in his own net to give the home side an equaliser.

Before the halftime break, Haaland put his side ahead again before securing his hat-trick in the 83rd minute to seal the three points for Pep Guardiola’s side.

After the game, one pundit and former top-flight player shared his thoughts on how the match went, pinpointing one thing Julen Lopetegui’s side did that resulted in them being on the receiving end of the 3-1 scoreline.

Ben Foster highlights West Ham’s big mistake against Man City

While assessing City’s win against the Hammers in a recent video shared on his YouTube channel, Ben Foster said this about one thing West Ham did that led to them getting beat by the Blues.

He said: “I was thinking about this when I was watching the game actually on Saturday evening and do you know what is the worst score to be against Man City?

“Don’t get me wrong I’ve been 5-0 down against Man City and that is probably the worst score I won’t lie, but being 2-1 down against Man City is one of the worst places you can be because you’ve still got to push and you’ve got to go for it.

“West Ham, they’re thinking 2-1 if we score, let’s keep pushing and they know they’ve got Erling Haaland who will happily just wait, wait, wait, you got Kevin De Bruyne will play the ball, any one of them can play the ball over the top for him and that’s exactly how he scored his third goal.

“You know not to leave space in behind for Erling Haaland, yet because they’re pushing at 2-1, they have to, they have to do it.

“It’s the worst place to be in, honestly, and the way that he just puts the ball in the back of the net as soon as he goes through, I’m just thinking well this is a goal, simple as that, Fantasy Premier League points, thank you very much.”

West Ham were outclassed by City

Looking back over the win in East London, City had 68% possession and racked up 23 shots at goal in total, eight of which were on target.

In comparison, the Hammers had 10 shots at goal but only two were on target.

The Blues ultimately earned themselves an overall team rating of 7.55/10 from SofaScore, which is significantly higher than the 6.61/10 rating West Ham were given for their efforts.

This highlights how City outclassed their opponents on Saturday to secure this latest victory and keep themselves at the top of the table heading into the first international break of the season.

After the game, Guardiola said that Haaland is “unstoppable” when he has space in front of him to run towards goal, which shows how right Foster was to highlight this mistake from West Ham.
