Pep Guardiola described Bernardo as “special” and one of the best players he has ever coached throughout his career — which speaks volumes of how outstanding the 30-year-old is.
At Manchester City, the Portuguese international has had the chance of playing with different generations of Sky Blues superstars — from Sergio Aguero to Kevin De Bruyne.
Bernardo Silva may well have played some players who could become legends at the Etihad Stadium one day, with names like Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol springing to mind.

However, Bernardo feels Kevin De Bruyne is the greatest player in the history of Manchester City.
While reflecting on his sadness about De Bruyne’s imminent exit, Bernardo went on to pay his teammate the ultimate compliment.
The six-time Premier League winner told ITV Sport: “We know about the possibility. About the decision, I personally knew two days before so it wasn’t that long. It was tough, it was tough for us because for me personally, it was eight years together. For a lot of us, a long time with him.”
“A little bit of the soul of this team is going, it’s sad. It’s sad for us, we wanted him to stay with us, we wanted him to keep going. It is what it is and no disrespect to the others but for me, he is the best player in the history of the club so the only thing we can say to him is thank you and wish him all the best.”
When asked about what makes De Bruyne such an outstanding player, Bernardo explained that he has mastered how to operate in the final third: “I think it’s final third, final third, he sees things other players don’t see but especially, he tries things other players wouldn’t dare to try and you need those kind of special players that do things that no one expects in your team if you want to go for the big trophies and he was one of the main reasons why we achieved so much in eight seasons mainly.”
