Manchester City are in the process of trimming down Pep Guardiola’s squad.
With the new Premier League season just around the corner, the Manchester club must reduce the size of the group the legendary coach is currently working with, as the signing of James Trafford has increased it to 31 players, with the target being 25.
Man City’s main focus is on selling McAtee, given the interest in the English star; however, several loan deals are also being negotiated, as these are another easy way to trim the numbers.
One of the Premier League giants’ young talents is closing in on a move to La Liga, and it is fair to say that City fans are not happy about the decision.

Vitor Reis is closing in on Girona move
It was reported at the start of the summer transfer window that Man City would not be sending Vitor Reis on loan for the 25/26 season; however, that stance seems to have changed due to the player.
Reis has asked Man City to leave on loan as the defender wants to try and work his way into the Brazil squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the centre-back having a better chance with regular minutes away from City.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Girona have agreed a deal in principle to sign Reis on loan from Man City. The 19-year-old is set to travel to Spain for his medical soon, once all the formal steps have been completed.
This decision will greatly benefit Reis going forward, but it does not help Man City in the short term, as the youngster would have been solid cover for Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol throughout the upcoming campaign.
Man City fans are aware of this, and they have made it clear that they are not happy about the centre-back leaving for the season.
Man City fans can’t believe Manuel Akanji was kept over Vitor Reis
Several of Man City’s centre-backs struggled last season, but Manuel Akanji’s 24/25 campaign stood out in particular, and fans of the club cannot believe the Swiss star has been kept over Reis.
One Man City fan wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter): “So we have Ake and Stones, who are made out of glass. We then have the lazy Akanji, we have Ruben Dias, who’s unreliable nowadays, but sure, let’s send a young, talented defender out.”
A second supporter of the Manchester club added: “But Akanji will remain. These decisions will bring this club to the ground, man.”
A final City fan added: “This is ridiculous £30million for him to go on loan when he’s probably better than Akanji atm.”
There are pros and cons to this decision, but ultimately it is the player’s wish. Therefore, Man City need to oblige or else it could come back to bite them further down the line.
