Brazilian media reveal Ederson did something very unusual before players were booed off after Uruguay draw

Ederson Moraes was handed a start for Brazil in their latest 1-1 draw against Uruguay in a qualifier for the 2026 World Cup.

In the 55th minute, Ederson was beaten by a vintage long-range strike from Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde.

The Manchester City goalkeeper could not do much to keep Valverde’s effort out, which was slotted right into the bottom corner with pace.

However, Brazil came back into the contest after Flamengo’s Gerson scored a brilliant volley from the edge of the box just seven minutes later.

In their last five games, Dorival Junior’s side have won three while losing and drawing once apiece.

Barring Brazil’s 1-0 loss to Paraguay, Ederson has started every game since first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker is still nursing an injury.

Ederson’s uncommon habit revealed during Brazil vs Uruguay

The former Benfica number one would have been hoping that his nation cap off the international break with a victory.

However, that was not the case, with The Independent reporting that Brazilian fans booed their national team as they sit in fifth place in their qualification group after an underwhelming display.

Brazilian outlet Globe Esporte only gave Ederson a 6/10 match rating while also observing that he was far less involved in possession than he usually tends to.

“Not to blame for [Federico] Valverde’s goal but he participated less in the game with his feet than previously expected. He showed confidence in plays without difficulty.”

Sofascore rated the six-time Premier League winner far more kindly in comparison with a 6.8/10 rating for his performance.

While FOTMOB handed Ederson a 6.7/10 match rating after his latest outing.

Ederson stats vs Uruguay

Sam Allardyce named Ederson as City’s best passer, which goes to show how comfortable he is with the ball at his feet.

Yet, the treble-winner decided for once not to influence proceedings with the ball at his feet as much as he tends to against Uruguay. Here are Ederson’s statistics from Brazil’s latest draw.

Based on Ederson’s statistics, it is evident that he did not play much of a part in Brazil’s build-up, playing a lowly two long balls and taking such 33 touches.

In comparison, the 30-year-old’s statistics even in Manchester City’s 2-1 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion reflect how involved he was in possession.

It could have been a case that Brazil boss Dorival Junior specifically instructed Ederson not to get on the ball as much as he tends to.

Considering how remarkable the decorated goalkeeper is on the ball, it is a misuse of his qualities not to encourage him to get involved in possession as much as possible.
