Branded as ‘world-class’ by Joleon Lescott, the 23-year-old was sublime in a more central role, dismantling the Magpies on the half-turn, creating a boatload of chances while getting an assist as well.

Phil Foden looks set to have the season of his life

While the treble-winner has won trophies galore and been a massive contributor to his boyhood club’s success over the years, the 2023/2024 season could give him a chance to become his side’s protagonist.

Alongside Erling Haaland, of course.

With Manchester City legend Kevin De Bruyne injured, the Stockporn-born technician was finally handed the chance to occupy a more central role as he ran the show against Newcastle, leaving Gary Lineker and several observers stunned with his showing.

Playing in his natural role while replacing possible the Sky Blues’ greatest ever player, Foden has plenty of responsibility on his shoulders.

Against Newcastle, it certainly looked like Phil Foden is embracing all the pressure of expectations as he put in the complete midfielder’s performance at the Etihad Stadium.
