Callum Wilson has said that he could not understand why Arthur Melo decided to acknowledge Pep Guardiola and shake his hand during Manchester City’s 4-1 victory against Liverpool.
The £379,000-a-week [Football Orbit] man was ecstatic after Julian Alvarez equalised for the Sky Blues, laying out a hand for the Brazilian midfielder to shake, before the pair had a brief chat.
As Arthur Melo was widely criticised for his actions, Callum Wilson also had his say after Pep Guardiola made a statement for a variety of reasons.
Callum Wilson reacts as Arthur Melo & Pep Guardiola make headlines
The Sky Blues bossed proceedings against the Reds, with Jack Grealish taking centrestage, for which he was praised for by Erling Haaland and Alan Shearer in a masterclass of a showing.
After Mohamed Salah initially opened the scoring for Liverpool, Manchester City went on to respond with a well-worked goal that was finished by Julian Alvarez.
As Pep Guardiola and Arthur Melo went on to shake hands after Kostas Tsimikas initially declined the Manchester City boss’ request, Callum Wilson was shocked at what he had witnessed.

I just think if that’s me walking past, my head is falling off when the manager is celebrating in front of me. I’m not ever shaking his hand and some of your people were doing that”, he said on BBC’s Footballer’s Football Podcast.
Not something to bother about for Guardiola and City
While the Catalan tactician was slated by many for his actions, it was quite clear to see that he was simply buzzing after the goal in the heat of the moment.
Callum Wilson is right that the handshake was a bad look for Arthur Melo but the same cannot be said about Pep Guardiola, whose side ended up winning in emphatic fashion.
As City prepare to face Southampton on the weekend, this non-issue should be dead and buried by then.
