It has now been revealed whether Manchester City or Liverpool have a better chance of wrapping up a transfer for Josko Gvardiol.

This comes from Fabrizio Romano, who was speaking to GiveMeSport about the RB Leipzig defender’s future, after it was claimed that he intends to join Pep Guardiola’s men.

With both Manchester City and Liverpool seemingly looking to bolster their defences, the likelihood of which club is further in the race to sign Josko Gvardiol has come to light.

Fabrizio Romano determines whether Manchester or Liverpool is closer to land Josko Gvardiol transfer

As Aymeric Laporte looks destined to leave the Etihad Stadium, it is not a shock that the Sky Blues have earmarked the Croatian defender as his potential replacement.

While at Anfield, defensive woes have become a normality, which is why the need for an upgrade like him at the back is obvious.

As per Fabrizio Romano’s knowledge, however, Manchester City look likelier to land Josko Gvardiol than Liverpool at the moment.

“Leipzig are not even accepting €80 million (£68.2 million) as a price tag for Gvardiol, so I think it will be around €100 million (£89.4 million) instead and I see Man City being in a better position to sign him, but only if they are willing to spend that money. Otherwise, the player could stay in Leipzig for one more season.”

Unsurprising to discover that Manchester City are beating the Reds

While Liverpool went from chasing a quadruple to finishing in the Europa League, Manchester City won the treble, which would be an obvious factor for Josko Gvardiol to take into consideration if asked to pick either club as his next destination.

Many might cite the financial power that City possess over the Reds but the fact of the matter is that the former also set a cap on fees to pay transfer targets instead of just blindly splashing the cash.

At the end of the day, while the Premier League champions look set to prolong their dynasty as English football’s dominant force, the Merseyside-based club look miles off returning to their very best.
