Real Madrid have now denied talk of sending a bid for Julian Alvarez to Manchester City – although the Spanish giants are interested.

That is according to Bernabeu Digital.

So, what is the latest on Julian Alvarez? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well – according to SPORT in Spain – the Argentina international wants a more prominent role, and is consequently considering an exit from Manchester City.

A separate story from SPORT added that Barcelona are monitoring his situation too.

Now, there has been an update on Real Madrid’s side of things.

Bernabeu Digital made contact with Real Madrid to see just how accurate rumours of an €80m (£69m) bid for Alvarez are.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are said to have denied that particular figure, although the Spanish news outlet do add that Real Madrid have tracked the South American since his days at River Plate.

Manchester City signed Alvarez from River Plate back in January 2022 for a sum of just £14.1m – which has proven to be a remarkable bit of business.

The 23-year-old has already scored seven goals in 14 appearances this season, while also providing five assists.

Julian Alvarez would face the same problem away from Manchester City

If Alvarez really is looking to move out of Erling Haaland’s shadow and step into a more prominent role, he should think carefully.

Real Madrid would not exactly be able to offer Alvarez the spotlight either with the likes of Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Neymar also famously joined PSG to move away from Lionel Messi’s shadow, only for Kylian Mbappe to leapfrog him in Paris – the Brazilian’s career is now fizzling out in Saudi Arabia.

Rotation is part and parcel of the modern game, so if Alvarez is unhappy with his role under Pep Guardiola, he should stop and think about other ways to handle the situation, rather than depart.
