Atalanta are now ready to discuss a deal for Giorgio Scalvini – a player Manchester City wanted to sign back in the summer.

That is according to Tutto Mercato Web.

So, what is the latest on Manchester City and Giorgio Scalvini? Let’s take a look…

Manchester City could finally sign Giorgio Scalvini

Well, it was actually Tutto Mercato Web who claimed that Manchester City wanted to buy the Italy international during the summer transfer window.

The Italian news outlet even mentioned that Pep Guardiola tried to sign Scalvini before turning to Josko Gvardiol – who some think is struggling at the Etihad Stadium.

Now, the treble winners appear to have a genuine chance at signing the 20-year-old.

The new story by Tutto Mercato Web claims that Atalanta are now willing to sell Scalvini for €45m (£39m) and Manchester City are again part of the queue waiting to sign him.

An enquiry has been made by the Citizens, although Bayern Munich are also keen on the Italian defender.

Scalvini has been an ever present for Atalanta once again this season, making 18 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal.

Giorgio Scalvini rumour may have legs

Some may scoff at Tutto Mercato Web’s report and ask why Guardiola wants another centre-back at Manchester City.

The Spaniard already has Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji, John Stones and Gvardiol, while Kyle Walker can also play there if need be.

However, Manchester City are leaking a lot of goals, so it is not unrealistic to think that Guardiola has asked Txiki Begiristain to find him a new defender.

The treble winners have only kept four clean sheets in 16 Premier League outings so far this season, so defensive reinforcements would make sense.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as anything could happen in January.
