Real Madrid were left upset by the 2023 Ballon d’Or results – and are determined to sign Erling Haaland from Manchester City as a result.
That is according to AS.
So, what is the latest on Erling Haaland? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, Real Madrid are a prestigious football club, and the Spanish news outlet believe Los Blancos were hurt to not have a single player finish within the top five of the Ballon d’Or rankings.
Lionel Messi, Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri made up the top five – in that order.
Now, Real Madrid want to go on the offensive, by bringing both Mbappe and the Norway international to the Santiago Bernabeu.
AS mention that Haaland has a release clause in his contract at the Etihad Stadium – something Real Madrid are aware of – but Manchester City are desperately trying to negotiate a new contract.
The treble winners are believed to have been working on Haaland’s deal for weeks, and plan to make him the highest paid player in the Premier League.

Of course, Jude Bellingham represented Real Madrid well in Paris on Monday by picking up the Kopa Trophy, given to the best Under-21 player on the planet.
However, Real Madrid are world famous for their desire to always be the best and bring bonafide superstars to the Spanish capital – hence the interest in both Haaland and Mbappe.
Manchester City should not worry about Haaland joining Real Madrid
In our view, it would be a major shock if Haaland moved to Real Madrid anytime soon.
Mbappe seems to be the priority for Real Madrid, and the France international’s contract expires at the end of the season, making him far more obtainable for the Spanish giants.

That deal is sure to be an expensive one despite the 24-year-old’s contract situation, and Haaland himself may not want to share the limelight with the Frenchman either.
If Real Madrid do end up signing the Norwegian – who was relaxed about Lionel Messi beating him to the Ballon d’Or – within the next four years, we would be very surprised.
