Manchester City have won their opening three Premier League games – and midfielder Rodri needs to be in position to win Premier League Player of the Month for August.

Pep Guardiola’s side didn’t come into the new campaign in the best shape.

The club had a pretty tiring trip to Asia for pre-season.

This, of course, not long after City’s gruelling season that culminated in an historic Treble.

City then lost the Community Shield to Arsenal.

But since the actual season started, City have been faultless in terms of results.

And one many who has been outstanding throughout is Rodri…

Man City Rodri should be named Premier League Player of the Month for August

Without a shadow of a doubt, City’s best performer across the three games so far has been Rodri.

The Spaniard has played every single minute possible so far, which will come as no surprise given how much Pep Guardiola loves him.

Against Burnley, Rodri put in an incredible display.

He saved City a couple of times, and also contributed an assist for Erling Haaland and a goal in the secon-half.

Micah Richards branded it one of the best performances by a Man City midfielder he has ever seen.

Against Newcastle, Rodri dominated.

He was by far the most involved player on the ball, completing 122/135 (90%) passes (via Sofascore). The player who had the second-highest number of passes was Mateo Kovacic with 91/97 (94%). Rodri also had 149 touches. Again, Kovacic was second in the game, way below Rodri with 107.

And last time out against Sheffield United, Rodri was his usual omnipotent self.

And the £63 million star again came in clutch for City, scoring just before injury-time after a shock equaliser from Jayden Bogle.

Rodri – described recently by Jamie Carragher as ‘a complete footballer’ – lashed in after a loose touch by Phil Foden.

City have been the best team in the Premier League in August.

And as the standout performer in the best team, it makes perfect sense for Rodri to win the first Premier League Player of the Month award of the season.

Like Kevin De Bruyne, he’s never actually won a Player of the Month award before. But he 100% deserves it based on the three games he’s just had.
