Manchester City youngster Oscar Bobb hailed Erling Haaland after Tuesday night’s win over Brentford – and branded him ‘the best striker in the world’.

City took three big points against Thomas Frank’s side, and are now just one point behind Liverpool in the Premier League table.

Haaland grabbed the game’s only goal at the Etihad Stadium, taking advantage of a slip from Kris Ajer.

The 23-year-old raced through after a pass by Julian Alvarez, and provided a clinical finish – something he’d struggled to do for most of the game and against Chelsea in the previous match.

It would have been a satisfying moment for Haaland after his struggles against Chelsea – and Oscar Bobb hailed his teammate after the game…

Bobb was handed a first ever start in the Premier League last night.

It was a quick turnaround from the weekend and so, Pep Guardiola thought it wise to rotate a few players.

Bobb came in on the left-hand side in place of Jeremy Doku, who replaced the 20-year-old on the hour mark.

It was a decent outing for Bobb, who came so close to scoring a brilliant goal after a fantastic dummy in the first-half, with Ben Mee clearing off the line.

But Haaland later succeeded where he narrowly failed, and Bobb lauded his fellow countryman straight after the game. He said (via BBC Sport): “He’s the best in the world. He’s only three years older than me but it’s crazy to play with one of the greats.”

Bobb is not wrong

It was fantastic to see City’s £51 million star Haaland getting back on the scoresheet last night, after what happened at the weekend.

He spurned a plethora of chances against Chelsea, and he had to have been feeling very frustrated after that game – we even saw him shove a TV camera at the end.

Bobb is right to say that Haaland – whom Sean Dyche branded ‘special’ after City’s 2-0 win over Everton in which the star scored a brace – is the best striker in the world.

Ultimately, you just cannot argue with his numbers since he came to Manchester City – 74 goals in 81 appearances is just an amazing return.

Yes, he misses chances and occasionally has games where is not at it, like against Chelsea. But he is human, and City would not swap him for anyone in the world.
