Danny Murphy makes a bold early prediction ahead of Man City’s clash with Wolves

Manchester City have made a solid start to the new season and are yet to lose a game in 2024/25.

Despite not having Rodri for most of the season so far, Manchester City are just one point behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, winning five games and drawing two.

Over in the Champions League, City sit eighth in the table after their first two games.

City have been nowhere near their best yet. But they have shown why they are champions and pick up results in spite of that.

But City were slightly fortunate against Fulham last week.

Ederson, who was branded ‘very reliable’ by Jeremy Doku after the 3-2 win, was thankfully on top form for Man City. Had Adama Traore been more clinical, Pep Guardiola could easily have suffered his first defeat of the campaign.

Following that result, pundit Danny Murphy has now made a bold prediction for City’s next game with Wolves.

Last season, Wolves beat Manchester City 2-1 after switching their formation to a back three with wing-backs.

It was a result that was a catalyst for their season.

Going into this game at Molineux, the situation is very similar to what it was last season.

Like in 2023/24, City haven’t lost a league game yet this season. Wolves had actually won one game before this fixture last season, but this time around they are yet to taste victory, and are currently bottom of the table.

Despite a horrible start for them, Murphy is backing Wanderers to cause on upset.

Speaking on talkSPORT yesterday, he said: “This is the same Wolves that beat Man City at home last year.

“And it just so happens that their next game is Man City at home. They’re going to fight and they’re going to be resilient.

“It wouldn’t surprise me, the way the Premier League is, that they get something out of it.”

Wolves could be a potential banana skin for Man City

Manchester City will need to be a little wary when they go to Molineux after the international break.

While Wolves are bottom of the Premier League table, they have shown some good signs in their games this season and have been unlucky with the difficulty of their fixtures.

They are defensively suspect at the moment, conceding 21 in the league. But there are definitely some threats for City to beware, such as Matheus Cunha and new signing Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Wolves also have former City midfielder Tommy Doyle who could play some part, and former City academy graduate Carlos Forbs.

We all saw what happened last season when Wolves won 2-1 at Molineux.

After being tested by Fulham, City will certainly need to tighten up at the back after the international break.

Pundit Danny Higginbotham noticed the City defenders panicked without Rodri last time out and that is something Guardiola will need to address. Hopefully, there can be a bit more solidity at Molineux against a side desperate for a result.
