Manchester City will be waving goodbye to one of the club’s key figures at the end of the season.

This comes after David Ornstein reported that Txiki Begiristain will leave City in the summer after spending 12 years as their director of football.

Another valuable asset City could see leave at the same time is Pep Guardiola due to his current contract at the Etihad Stadium expiring in June.

Having arrived at the Manchester club back in 2016, the Catalan has now spent longer managing City than he did during his time in charge of Barcelona and Bayern Munich combined.

This has since led to one pundit sharing a claim about the 53-year-old and what the future could hold for him.

Danny Murphy claims Pep Guardiola has decided his Man City future

On the subject of Begiristain’s impending exit, Danny Murphy said this in a recent video shared on the talkSPORT YouTube channel about whether it could have an impact on Guardiola’s future at City.

He said: “This could have been a plan for the last two years.

“Pep has probably known about it for a long time and he’s got many other people who are qualified to do the job who I’m sure he gets on with well.

“I don’t think it’s an indicator of what Pep’s going to do or not. Pep’s probably already made his mind up with what he’s going to do.

“I’ve got a feeling he’ll stay. I do only because of all the difficult times they’re going through.

“The little snippets I’ve seen of him talk, even over the past six, 12 months regarding it, there’s a steeliness about him. I don’t think he’ll jump ship.”

What else has been said about Guardiola’s City future?

Following Ornstein’s recent report, it was then claimed that Begiristain’s exit will have no impact on Guardoiola’s future at City.

Prior to the start of the current season, Guardiola said he would love to sign a contract extension at City but admitted that he isn’t likely to spend another eight years in charge of the club.

During his time as the Citizens’ manager, the 53-year-old has overlooked 483 games in total across all competitions, winning 357, drawing 60 and losing 66.

In addition to that, Guardiola has guided City to multiple trophies including six Premier League titles and the club’s first Champions League trophy.

Now that Murphy has claimed that he thinks Guardiola has already decided that he won’t be leaving City in the summer, this would undoubtedly be a big positive for everyone at the club if he does go on to sign an extension.
