Manchester City have now seen another summer transfer window go by and are now focusing on their latest season.

Over the recent window, multiple players made moves in and out of the Etihad Stadium on temporary loan deals and permanent moves.

Once the window closed, Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol shared that City were the lowest spenders in the Premier League and managed to make a profit of £111m.

Now though, a pundit and former Premier League player has highlighted one particular deal City were involved in over the summer that he thinks is one of the best of the entire window.

Darren Bent says Man City’s deal for Ilkay Gundogan was the bargain of the summer window

When asked to list some of his standout transfer deals of the recent summer window, Darren Bent had this to say on talkSPORT (3/9 5:42 PM) about which particular deal he thinks was the best bargain transfer.

He said: “Bargain is, this is an obvious one, he came back on a free to Man City – Ilkay Gundogan.

“Took a year off just chilling at Barcelona. Went under the radar. To bring him back. Also, he is coming back to a system he knows like crazy. He doesn’t have to explain to him how he plays. He knows exactly what he does.

“He was their captain when they won the treble. It’s a bargain. To bring him back, it’s class.”

City made the right choice in bringing Gundogan back

After spending seven years at City between 2016 and 2023, Gundogan left City as a free agent to join Barcelona on a three-year deal.

However, with just one season at the Spanish club to his name, the midfielder found himself leaving on a free due to financial matters at Barcelona, resulting in him making a return to Pep Guardiola’s side.

Having made over 300 appearances for the Citizens in his first spell at the club, this backs up Bent’s point about Gundogan knowing how Guardiola wants his side to play and making it easier for him to slot back in the team.
