Darren Bent has said that while Erling Haaland is a special player, it would be a stretch to claim that he is already better than Thierry Henry.

Branded as ‘phenomenal’ by Rio Ferdinand, the £51.2 million (Eurosport) man stirred a debate after breaking Mohamed Salah’s goal record in a single season in the Premier League against Arsenal.

However, Darren Bent has said that as astonishingly brilliant as Erling Haaland is, he cannot be compared to Thierry Henry yet.

Darren Bent settles Erling Haaland vs Thierry Henry debate

The 22-year-old has taken English football by storm, making a mockery of his doubters by having a claim to have been the best player in the world this season.

As Pep Guardiola’s side find themselves in a hunt for a historic treble, the difference maker has undoubtedly been the Norwegian superstar.

As presenter Andy Goldstein said that Erling Haaland might not just be better than Thierry Henry in terms of his natural talent but in general, Darren Bent refuted this claim.

“You’d be able to answer that in terms of the Premier League next year. Second season is always the one”, he opened on talkSPORT.

“Not yet. I’d still put…[Alan] Shearer’s got 260 [goals].”

Darren Bent continued when it comes to the Erling Haaland versus Thierry Henry debate, saying, “Henry. Henry, all day, every day. He’s not better than Henry. He’s not a better player than Henry yet, come on. People forget how good Henry was! Haaland’s unstoppable.”

“I get that [he responded to Henry never reaching a goal tally like Haaland’s]. 20 assists, both [goals and assists]. It’s about both. He did both, that’s my point.”

MCN View: As unreal as the Viking is, Darren Bent is right

Look, there is no questioning that the former Borussia Dortmund goalscorer is the definition of a generational talent.

However, Darren Bent is right in saying that as tremendous as Erling Haaland is, he still has a long way to go surpass Thierry Henry, who may well be the greatest striker of all time alongside Ronaldo Nazario.

Whether Haaland can surpass Henry is another conversation and in all fairness, he most certainly can but only time will tell.
