Man City could raid some of their Premier League rivals for new signings in the summer, and Aston Villa could be one club that Pep Guardiola pays particular attention to.
Manchester City are primed for a busy and expensive summer transfer window after what’s been a rather disastrous 2024/25 season so far.
In the summer, Hugo Viana will arrive as director of football. It’ll mark the start of a new era at the Etihad and in a move that’s garnered praise from fans, Txiki Begiristain will help Viana at Man City to begin with, in the hope of a smoother transition.
As the summer transfer window draws nearer there’s more and more players being linked with summer moves to Man City. Pep Guardiola is seemingly casting his net far and wide with players across Europe supposedly on his transfer radar.
But it looks like Man City are placing a lot of focus closer to home. There are a number of Premier League players mentioned with City including the likes of Adam Wharton and also former City academy man Morgan Rogers.

David Ornstein transfer update on Aston Villa as Man City eye Jacob Ramsey
Rogers has been loosely mentioned alongside Man City ever since he started to impress with Aston Villa earlier in the season. Rogers left Man City for Middlesbrough in July 2023 but after half-a-season would be snapped up by Aston Villa in a £16million deal.
But Pep and Viana seem to be more keen, or at least as keen on Rogers’ Aston Villa teammate Jacob Ramsey. Man City have been linked with Ramsey ahead of the summer transfer window where he’s expected to be valued at £50million by Unai Emery’s side.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist David Ornstein has predicted ‘an outgoing’ at Villa Park despite the club’s plans to push on further. “An outgoing wouldn’t come as a huge surprise; there are always clubs looking at Jacob Ramsey, while Morgan Rogers is generating some big admirers,” says Ornstein.
“That is not to say these guys are leaving and certainly the club will not want to lose their best players. But it will be another big summer as Villa look to kick on again.”

Jacob Ramsey’s stats vs Phil Foden’s in 24/25 Premier League season
Ramsey isn’t a name that’ll get Man City fans all that excited. And rightly so as his stats don’t exactly paint such a positive picture, even when compared to Phil Foden who’s been criticised all season at Man City amid a very disappointing campaign for the England man.
Ramsey is a left-sided attacker for Villa, so it can be assumed that Pep and Viana are eyeing up Ramsey for the same position at Man City, even if it’s only to add depth.
| Stat (Premier League 24/25) | Phil Foden | Jacob Ramsey |
| Games | 25 | 23 |
| Goals | 7 | 1 |
| Assists | 2 | 3 |
| Shot conversion % | 13 | 7 |
| Big chances created | 7 | 4 |
| Key passes-per-game | 1.7 | 0.7 |
Man City need more signings like Omar Marmoush. They need to think outside the box a little bit more and maybe take one or two gambles on players from outside the Premier League, but who have that proven track record.
Ramsey just doesn’t scream ‘title-winning signing’ for Man City.
