Former Manchester City striker Paul Dickov has hailed Erling Haaland for his terrific second goal against BSC Young Boys tonight.

Pep Guardiola’s side have booked their place in the Champions League knockout stages for the 11th consecutive year, after a very comfortable 3-0 win at the Etihad Stadium.

Haaland was at the double for City, taking his tally to 15 for the season across all competitions.

Phil Foden also scored a brilliant goal, which really impressed TNT Sports pundit Rio Ferdinand.

Foden was fantastic throughout, but Haaland will be the man pictured on the back pages tomorrow morning.

His second goal tonight was of the highest quality, and it left former City striker Paul Dickov so impressed…

Haaland’s first goal was fairly routine from the penalty spot.

But his second was something of a rarity for the Norwegian, with it being only his third goal from outside the area for City.

Haaland collected the ball from Rico Lewis and then shifted the ball almost horizontally along the penalty box line.

Haaland, 23, then arrowed a shot back towards the far corner, which may well have taken the goalkeeper by surprise.

It was a fantastic hit and Dickov, on punditry duty for City’s Matchday Live show, said: “It defies logic. He’s running parallel to the goal. The defender dives in a little bit but his next touch, he’s still running parallel. Then, to not just be able to whip it, but the power he gets on it as well.

“The technique is ridiculous. The ‘keeper has got absolutely no chance. That’s what he’s capable of – all types of goals. People say he’s a six-yarder, a box goalscorer. He scores all types of goals. He takes defenders by surprise and the goalkeeper by surprise. What a finish.”

A stunning strike

This was a truly outstanding goal from Haaland.

Most strikers in that situation would have tried to go for the near post. The fact Haaland reversed his shot back to the far corner was amazing.

It just shows how lethal he is. It also shows his intelligence. Shooting there made it pretty much impossible for the goalkeeper to save it.

It is really good to see Haaland starting to score more goals from outside the box.
