Lionel Messi has lavished praise on to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, who won the second treble of his career by winning the Champions League.

As quoted by GOAL, the Argentine icon was quizzed about his reaction to his former coach triumphing in Europe’s elite competition for the third time in his career.

Unsurprisingly, Lionel Messi, like the rest of the world has been left awestruck by the genius of Pep Guardiola, after he lifted the Champions League trophy as well as the treble.

Lionel Messi raves about Pep Guardiola after Champions League win

Branded as ‘ruthless’ by the i Newspaper, the Catalan boss rescued what looked like an underwhelming City season by embedding in a brand-new tactical blueprint mid-season.

The Sky Blues managed to hunt Arsenal down in the Premier League title race, beat Manchester United in the FA Cup final and beat Inter Milan in Europe to become the second English side to win the treble.

As winning the Champions League has been the treble’s biggest headline, much like Denis Irwin, Lionel Messi has now lauded Pep Guardiola for doing so.

“I’m still in contact with [Pep Guardiola]. Winning the Champions League this time shows that he is the best coach in the world, although didn’t have to win this Champions League to prove it, he deserved to win the Champions League.”

Pep Guardiola would have been the best coach in the world regardless

Even if Pep Guardiola had not won the Champions League, his status as the best manager in the world should not have been questioned.

At the end of day, Guardiola has once again proven this campaign that not a single manager in the world can create tactical solutions quite like him.

In what could have been seen as a transition season for Manchester City due to a number of missing profiles in the side, Guardiola rubbished such suggestions by spearheading his team to a treble.

To have even guided the Sky Blues to a double after the state his side were in has reiterated the fact that no coach is on the Catalan’s level, and perhaps the game is yet to see one who is.
