In the age of extortionate transfer prices, Manchester City are unfortunately not immune to spending some daft money.
Jack Grealish’s £100million move to Manchester City in 2021 remains City’s biggest ever transfer fee for a player. But this summer could see Pep Guardiola’s side come close to matching that, or even breaking it.
A big summer lies ahead for Man City who are linked with Bruno Guimaraes at Newcastle United, with a £100million price tag, Rodrygo at Real Madrid with a staggering £125million price tag, and Florian Wirtz among others; another £100million+ player.
But a new name has been linked and has even been given this £100million treatment: Southampton’s Tyler Dibling.

It’s reported that Southampton want £100million for Dibling this summer, with Manchester City among the teams interested in the 19-year-old attacker who’s scored twice in 26 Premier League games for bottom club Southampton this season.
“So everyone thinks they can rob us,” said one Man City fan in response to the Dibling news. “They can keep him.”
Another added: “£100m for a player that should not cost more than £30m is crazy,” as another similar comment read: “Let’s be serious right now! A club going back to the Championship?”
One City supporter wrote: “In other words they do not want to sell. City won’t make the same £100m mistake again,” in relation to Grealish’s signing.
“Echeverri is far far better than this little Grealish,” said one, as another labelled Dibling as a “Grealish 2.0”.
“Did I read this correctly?” asked another City supporter.

Although two completely different players, with different experiences and playing at vastly different teams, there’s certainly similarities between Grealish and Dibling who is definitely that kind of tricky winger/attacking midfield.
And Dibling is definitely a prospect and someone who Southampton could expect to lose in the summer. But £100million for such an unproven player is ridiculous, and like many City fans predict, their club would surely think twice before spending £100million on another player.

For Pep, building his new Man City side around young players like Dibling might be the way forward. But with so many new players needed, spending must be done smartly this summer.
