Man City frustrated as winger they want to sign will cost over £100m now, he’s only scored four goals this season

Heading into the summer, Manchester City would be best-advised to be mindful before signing any player more than in previous transfer windows due to being burnt by ill-advised moves in recent years.

Ilkay Gundogan is keen on joining Galatasaray after what has been a disappointing return to City and a move that sums up the Premier League champions’ mishaps in the transfer market.

Matheus Nunes eyes a return to Sporting CP as well — another player whose signing in 2023 beggars belief to this day.

Next season, Manchester City will be hoping to challenge for major trophies at the very least but that would only be possible if they revert to making shrewd additions to their squad.

Tyler Dibling is on Manchester City’s radar ahead of the summer and is a player who they are showing “concrete interest” more than any of his suitors.

Man City unhappy as Tyler Dibling transfer will cost £100 million plus

Dibling has emerged as one of the Premier League’s breakout stars this season, managing to hold his own in his debut season in the English top-flight despite playing for a woeful Southampton side.

The Englishman is only 19 but he has stood out on several instances this season — with his sparkling display in the Saints’ 3-2 defeat against Liverpool being a memorable performance.

Rodrygo’s father has held transfer talks with Pep Guardiola and it seems like City could well bolster their wide department in the summer.

But journalist John Percy has revealed that it has been “frustrating” for interested clubs like Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham to discover that Southampton have slapped a price tag in excess of £100 million on Dibling.

The Telegraph’s report adds that Pep Guardiola’s men have been scouting the youngster throughout the ongoing season.

Southampton view Dibling as one of the most prodigious talents in England and for Manchester City to win the race for his signature, they will have to not just fight off interest within the Premier League but also from German clubs like Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig.

If City do go on to ramp up their efforts to bring the England Under-21 international to the Etihad Stadium, they will have to break the club-record £100 million fee paid towards signing Jack Grealish.

Manchester City are happy to let Grealish leave who signed for the English giants when he was one of the best players in the league and nearly, four years down the line, his addition has largely underwhelmed.

Here is a statistical comparison between Dibling this season and Grealish during his final season at Villa before he became a Manchester City player.

The treble-winner produced far better numbers at the time and yet, his signing has not particularly worked out and his countryman could suffer the same fate if City shelled out a massive fee to sign him.
