Former Manchester City Head of Recruitment, Joe Shields, who joined Chelsea in October is believing to be the driving force behind their interest in Cole Palmer.
This comes from the Times, as it was reported on Wednesday that Mauricio Pochettino’s side are set to ‘open talks’ with the Englishman.
Now, it seems like Joe Shields is the mastermind behind the interest shown by Chelsea in their attempt to sign Cole Palmer from Manchester City.
Joe Shields is the driving force behind Chelsea interest in Cole Palmer
Branded as an ‘exceptional talent’ by Joleon Lescott, the 21-year-old is now also believed to be ‘open to move’ to Stamford Bridge.
It seemed like Palmer was ready to set the world alight in sky blue, having scored against both Arsenal and Sevilla in the Community Shield and UEFA Cup respectively.
But now, Chelsea are doing all they can to sign Cole Palmer, with Joe Shields, who previously worked with him at Manchester City’s academy believed to be the driving force behind the potential transfer.

Interestingly, Shields, who was previously at Southampton before heading to West London was also known to be key in Lavia’s move to St. Mary’s.
Selling Cole Palmer should not even be an option for Manchester City
While Joe Shields is right to recognise that the treble-winner is a superstar in the making and would likely elevate Chelsea, Manchester City should not even consider a sale.
For starters, for City to sell one of their biggest talents to a fellow ‘Big Six’ club would be a silly decision.
To add to that, Palmer is one of the only two natural wingers at the club alongside Doku.
Thirdly, Cole Palmer has showcased so far this season that he is ready to have a serious impact at senior level.
With all these factors in play, Manchester City should reject Chelsea’s proposal and focus on bringing in new signings instead.
