Mauricio Pochettino has now expressed his delight at Cole Palmer – after the Chelsea No.20 started to shine following a departure from Manchester City on deadline day.
Chelsea paid £45m to sign the 21-year-old after he enjoyed a stunning start to the season with Manchester City.
So, what has Mauricio Pochettino said about Manchester City academy graduate Cole Palmer? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, many questioned Chelsea’s decision to spend £45m on a player who had only started five Premier League games before moving to Stamford Bridge.
However – after a few bright cameos from the bench – Palmer has now impressed in successive starts for the Blues. Some Chelsea fans even recently claimed that Todd Boehly “robbed” Manchester City.
Whether you agree with that or not, Pochettino is certainly pleased with his deadline day signing’s progress.
The Argentine told Sky Sports: “He’s doing really well. He played minutes against Nottingham Forest and Brighton. Noni was injured, Carney still not recovered. We decide to give him the chance to start. He’s very talented, young. We’re confident.”

Palmer played a vital role as Chelsea picked up just a second Premier League win of the 2023/24 campaign against Fulham on Monday night, providing the assist for Armando Broja to make it 2-0.
Manchester City were still right to sell Cole Palmer
Despite Palmer’s impressive start to life at Stamford Bridge, we believe Manchester City were right to accept the £45m bid for him.
Pep Guardiola has already started to use another academy graduate in Oscar Bobb after allowing Palmer to leave, and the Norwegian looks capable of becoming just as good as the England Under-21 international.

Most of that £45m fee was also spent on Jeremy Doku earlier in the summer transfer window – a £55.5m signing from Rennes – who has been even more impressive than the Chelsea No.20 this season.
Therefore, Manchester City can feel comfortable with their decision.
