Dwight McNeil has named a Manchester City star as the toughest opponent he has come up against in his career so far.

Everton forward Dwight McNeil is an accomplished Premier League player now into his seventh season in the top flight having come through as a youngster at Burnley before moving to Goodison Park.

So the 25-year-old has come up against a whole host of talented players already in his career.

As a left-winger, McNeil has particularly had to battle it out with right-backs over the seasons and out of all the players he’s faced, Manchester City’s Kyle Walker has been named as the toughest.

Dwight McNeil names Kyle Walker as the toughest opponent he has faced

Speaking in a YouTube short on Everton’s official channel, McNeil said: “There’s quite a few to be fair.

“I’d probably say… Kyle Walker or Reece James. Both of them are fast.”

Reserve goalkeeper Joao Virginia added Kevin De Bruyne to the mix while midfielder James Garner named former City captain Ilkay Gundogan as his toughest opponent.

The quality of Kyle Walker

Keeping hold of Walker continues to be one of City’s biggest successes of the summer.

There was heavy speculation the right-back could depart during the transfer window, with Bayern Munich said to be keen.

The £50m man had lost his regular spot in Pep Guardiola’s side towards the end of last season and admitted he was disappointed at not starting the Champions League final.

But he’s enjoyed a great turnaround this season by starting all but two Premier League matches and earning the captain’s armband.

Walker continues to be crucial to the side and, after signing a new contract in September, will be for years to come.
