Ederson names ‘absurd’ player as his toughest opponent, Man City tried to sign him in 2021

Ederson has played with and against a significant number of top attacking players during his time at Manchester City.

City signed the goalkeeper back in the 2017 summer transfer window from Benfica, paying £35m to bring him to the Etihad Stadium.

Now in his eighth season at the Manchester club, Ederson has made 341 appearances in all competitions, playing a key role in seeing City win the multitude of trophies they’ve lifted throughout the majority of Pep Guardiola’s reign.

To highlight how special he is, Danny Murphy described Ederson as the best footballing goalkeeper in Premier League history back in May.

Having played with superstar strikers such as Sergio Aguero and Erling Haaland, the Brazilian has also faced off against his fair share of high-quality centre-forwards during his time with the Blues.

In fact, the 30-year-old has now named one particular striker he considers to be especially tough to deal with.

Ederson names Harry Kane as the best striker he’s played against

While taking part in an event for Children’s Day in Brazil recently, Ederson gave this answer after being asked who the best striker he’s come up against is (via ESPN).

He said: “Man, I’ve faced a few strikers, especially in the Premier League. But I think the most difficult one, the one I’ve seen with the most quality, is Harry Kane.

“He has an absurd quality, both inside the box and outside, when he comes out to receive play, he has a lot of quality. So, from my point of view, he was one of the best strikers I’ve ever faced.”

Ederson almost had Kane as a teammate at City

At the age of 31, Kane has bagged 350 goals in 554 senior club appearances.

Having come up against Ederson on 10 occasions, all of which came when he was at Tottenham Hotspur, the Englishman scored three of the 13 goals Spurs scored across those 10 matches against City.

So while he didn’t get the better of Ederson too often, the fact that the Brazil international named Kane as the best striker he’s played against shows just how highly he rates the Bayern Munich star.

Interestingly, the shot-stopper could have had Kane as a teammate at City, as the Blues offered Tottenham £100m (via Sky Sports) to sign him back in the 2021 summer transfer window, but saw their bid rejected.

Following that, Clinton Morrison claimed that Kane could have scored 50 goals in one season at City due to how much of a top striker he is.

Even though the England captain didn’t score too many goals against him, Ederson is probably glad that he no longer has to face Kane in the Premier League anymore.
