While Erling Haaland has emerged as the long-term heir to Sergio Aguero at Manchester City, he directly replaced Gabriel Jesus upon signing for the club in 2022.

As Jesus left City to join Arsenal, Haaland replaced him as the club’s leading striker.

In the Brazilian’s final season at Manchester City, he started 21 Premier League games — registering eight goals and nine assists.

But during the campaign, Gabriel Jesus often played as a right-winger.

It seemed like the four-time Premier League winner had convinced Pep Guardiola that he was at the standard out wide to be trusted out there.

It’s safe to say that Manchester City’s number nine has done a phenomenal job in replacing Jesus.

Erling Haaland has more Premier League goals for Man City than Gabriel Jesus

Meanwhile, the former Palmeiras frontman has lost his place to Kai Havertz as Arsenal’s starting striker.

There is no running away from the fact that Pep Guardiola’s men massively upgraded on the 27-year-old by signing the Norwegian from Borussia Dortmund.

So much so that after scoring against Southampton, Haaland now has more goals than Jesus (73) for Manchester City (74) in the Premier League — as per Squawka Live.

Remarkably so, the 24-year-old has accomplished his tally in 75 games while the Gunners forward did so in 218 appearances for City.

Jesus signed for the Sky Blues in 2018 and spent four and a half seasons at the Etihad Stadium.

The versatile marksman also made 143 more league appearances for the Sky Blues than Haaland.

During Manchester City and Arsenal’s 2-2 draw this season, Haaland and Jesus exchanged words during their post-match argument.

Josko Gvardiol has outscored Jesus in the Premier League since last season as well.

Haaland vs Jesus Premier League season by season goal record

Jesus will be hoping to get more game time at the Emirates Stadium this season.

Even in Arsenal’s latest 2-2 draw against Liverpool, the decorated frontman only came off the bench.

Jesus came close to scoring late on when he close-range effort was blocked by Curtis Jones. Here is comparison of Haaland and Jesus’ goal records in the Premier League since the 2022/2023 season.

The two-time Premier League winner has managed to match his best goal tally in the league at Arsenal just nine games into the season.

Haaland has managed to elevate a Manchester City side that certainly looked like they were missing the presence of a world-class goalscorer during Jesus’ time at the club.

Unlike the latter, the former has also managed to emerge as the perfect successor to Sergio Aguero’s throne.

Manchester City will be delighted to witness how their decision to sign Haaland and approve of Jesus’ exit has paid off.
