Craig Burley feels Manchester City have a player who would be a top-class signing for Barcelona.
With Real Madrid adding Kylian Mbappe to their ranks this summer, Hansi Flick’s side will have to make some statement signings in the transfer window.
Carlo Ancelotti and Co. are coming off the back of a double-winning season and during the 2024/2025 campaign, Mbappe’s introduction into the side could make them even more dangerous.
As a result, Barcelona would be intending to make additions to their squad who can especially help them push Real Madrid in the race to win La Liga.
In June, it was reported that the Catalan giants internally believe that one player who suits their project to a tee is Julian Alvarez.

Craig Burley gives honest verdict on Julian Alvarez potentially signing for Barcelona
In the same month, it was claimed that Alvarez is Barcelona’s top target in the summer transfer window.
Last Sunday, Fabrizio Romano stated that City intend to discuss the Argentine striker’s future with him after the Copa America — a trophy he won as his nation beat Colombia 1-0 in the final.
Alvarez is tied to a long-term contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2028.
Craig Burley was quizzed about how he feels the World Cup winner would fit in at the Spotify Camp Nou as a potential signing.
Burley felt Alvarez fits into the Barcelona side like a glove, saying via ESPN FC: “Well, to be honest with you, I mean, [Julian] Alvarez would probably get into that Barcelona side. If they don’t sign Nico Williams, you know, he can play anywhere in that front three.”
Julian Alvarez could be tempted by Barcelona transfer
Last month, Fabrizio Romano emphasised that he can “guarantee” Alvarez is keen on more game time — whether that is at Manchester City or any other club.
With the 35-year-old Robert Lewandowski ageing and perhaps being past his best, the £100,000-a-week man would perhaps be able to usurp him to become the side’s primary striker.
If Alvarez is looking to be the main man elsewhere, Barcelona — being a club where that is a possibility and one of the biggest attractions for any player in world football could be a tempting prospect for him.
Whether a potential move to Hansi Flick’s side materialises for the two-time Premier League winner will be interesting to see.
