“Marc is doing really, really well. He’s played with great maturity in the two games last month”, the Three Lions manager said.

“At times, he might not catch the eye in the way that some other players do because he’s in the right place, so he’s not having to turn round and cover for something that he’s got wrong.”

‘He’s a very calm player [and] positionally excellent. [He is] composed with the ball, [has a] very good mentality, so we think he’s developing very well.”

Imagine Marc Guehi under Pep Guardiola

Gareth Southgate has the hit the nail on the head about Marc Guehi, who could develop into a world-class defender if he made the move to Manchester City.

Working under Pep Guardiola in particular, the 23-year-old is at an age where he could up his game to another level under his tutelage.

Much like John Stones, who was 22 when he signed for Manchester City, his fellow countryman could undergo a similar rise if he left Selhurst Park to play his football at the Etihad Stadium.

After all, Pep Guardiola is known to improve defenders from a technical standpoint as well as tactically, testing them in a number of positions and setups.
