‘Exciting’ Manchester City player a combination of Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez

One of the best signings in the Premier League this season has been Jeremy Doku of Manchester City.

I have no doubt whatsoever about that.

Jeremy Doku starring for Manchester City

Manchester City signed Jeremy Doku from Rennes in the summer transfer window.

The defending Premier League champions paid Rennes £55.5 million in transfer fees for Doku.

Usually, players take a while to get used to Pep Guardiola’s system at City.

Jack Grealish took an entire season to come to grips with Guardiola’s system.

But, Doku has hit the ground running at City.

The 21-year-old Belgium international winger has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water.

Doku has made the left-wing spot in the City starting lineup his own now and is keeping Grealish out of the team.

The winger was the star of the show for City this past weekend.

Doku scored a goal and gave four assists, as the Citizens hammered Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League.

Praise for Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku

Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Garth Crooks was impressed by the display produced by Doku.

Crooks has included the winger in his Premier League Team of the Week and has also praised his teammate Bernardo Silva, saying that he was “playing the most beautiful football”.

The BBC Sport pundit believes that Doku is playing like Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez rolled into one.

Sterling and Mahrez are two of the best attacking players/wingers in City’s recent history.

While England international attacker Sterling is now at Chelsea, Mahrez is playing for Al-Ahli Saudi FC in Saudi Arabia.

Crooks told BBC Sport about Doku: “Pep Guardiola has found a player who is doing the things that Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez were doing for City two seasons ago all rolled into one.

“Jeremy Doku destroyed Bournemouth but we’ve also seen him do the same thing against better quality sides without such sparkling results.

“Here, though, the Belgian scored one goal, had three assists and a deflected shot which resulted in a goal that should have been credited to him anyway.

“This lad is one of the most exciting talents I have seen in some time. What he might become in the hands of Pep Guardiola is anyone’s guess.”

Doku has scored two goals and given five assists in eight Premier League matches for City this season.

The winger has scored one goal and provided one assist in three UEFA Champions League games.

City are at the top of the Premier League table with 27 points from 11 matches, a point ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in second.
