‘Problem’: Alan Pardew says £300,000-a-week player could now struggle to start for Manchester City

Jeremy Doku was the star of the show for Manchester City against Bournemouth, and Alan Pardew believes that it is a problem for Jack Grealish.

Manchester City hammered Bournemouth 6-1 at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League this past weekend.

It was supposed to be an easy win for City, and it proved to be so.

Jeremy Doku was the best player on the pitch.

The 21-year-old winger scored a goal and provided four assists.

It was one of the best individual displays in the Premier League so far this season, perhaps even the best.

Doku started on the left wing ahead of Jack Grealish.

Again.

Grealish did not even come on as a substitute.

Former Newcastle United manager and talkSPORT pundit Alan Pardew believes that Grealish could now struggle to get into the City starting lineup.

Pardew said on talkSPORT (8:32pm, November 5, 2023) “He (Doku) was exceptional, wasn’t he? To have this player now.

“So, you have got all those players, playing around the corner, the street footballers like Grealish and Foden, natural kind of talent, but not someone who is dynamic who can run at a full-back, inside, outside.

“Brilliant to have in your squad.”

The talkSPORT pundit added: “I think Grealish has got a problem, I really do, because I think that’s him down that side for me in most games.”

My View: Jack Grealish behind Jeremy Doku in pecking order

I believe that Jeremy Doku is now firmly ahead of Jack Grealish in the pecking order at Manchester City.

Grealish is at his best down the left wing.

Doku has publicly said that his favourite position is left wing.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is playing Doku at left wing.

It could not be any more obvious.

Of course, we know that Guardiola likes to change his team and keep everyone on their toes, but given how Doku is playing right now, it is really hard to see him being dropped anytime soon.

The 21-year-old Belgium international has made six starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League this season.

Doku has scored two goals and given five assists in those matches.

The winger has also made one start and two substitute appearances in the UEFA Champions League for the Citizens.

The City no. 11 has scored one goal and provided one assist in those games.

Grealish has made three starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League this season.

The £300,000-a-week (Spotrac) City no. 10 has given one assist in those games.

Grealish has not scored or given an assist in two UEFA Champions League matches for City.
