‘Extraordinary’… Journalist says Fernandinho told him Man City once had a player who was better than Neymar

It has been revealed that Fernandinho believes David Silva was better than Neymar.

When quizzed about whether the Al-Hilal forward or Kevin De Bruyne was the best player he ever played with, the Brazilian midfielder mentioned none other than the Spanish maestro, as per journalist Ícaro Análises’ tweet.

It seems like any and everyone who has played or witnessed Silva play has no choice but to hail the magic he produced on the pitch.

For instance, Joe Hart described the retired midfielder as a simply “unbelievable footballer” while also giving an insight into his “fun” personality.

Similarly, when Oleksandr Zinchenko said that while he has a lot of respect for players like former Manchester City teammates Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and Fernandinho, David Silva was a class apart in his eyes.

Now, Ícaro Análises has revealed that Fernandinho thought David Silva was the best player he played with in his career instead of Neymar or even Kevin De Bruyne.

“In November, I asked Fernandinho who was the best player/star he played with: Neymar or Kevin De Bruyne? He answered me David Silva”, Análises tweeted.

“He said [David] Silva was extraordinary.”

It is far from blasphemous to make such a claim about David Silva

Many would perhaps scoff at the fact that Fernandinho picked David Silva over Neymar as the best player he has ever played with.

The former Barcelona technician is widely regarded as the third-best player of his generation by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

In terms of natural talent, the game has not seen many better than Neymar as well.

However, David Silva was a genius of a player as well, albeit in a much different sense to the ex-PSG superstar.

In fact, a player like Neymar would struggle to maximise his potential in a team that lacks a controlling presence like Silva.

Such was the case at Manchester City as well when David Silva built the foundation for flashier players to shine ahead of him.

As a result, Fernandinho’s pick is completely understandable, in our view.
