Now Pep Guardiola’s side has the chance to win yet another domestic double when they face Manchester United at Wembley.

Erik ten Hag’s side nearly didn’t make it as they sacrificed a 3-0 lead over Championship side Coventry City in the semi-final but managed to scrape through on penalties.

Man City vs Manchester United team news

Manchester City will be without goalkeeper Ederson for the game after he suffered a fractured eye socket in the victory over Tottenham.

However, the Brazilian almost certainly wouldn’t have started anyway as Stefan Ortega tends to start in the cups.

That’s City’s only concern whereas United still have multiple concerns.

Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia will miss the match while Mason Mount, Victor Lindelof and Anthony Martial could be involved after training this week.

Erik ten Hag said in his pre-match press conference: “Harry Maguire is unavailable but the rest, all the players you mentioned [Lindelof, Mount and Martial], they are – I think – available.”

“We have, tomorrow, final training and then we have final decisions. But, as I oversee it now, it looks good.”

Man City road to Wembley

Manchester City are fighting to win just their third FA Cup under Guardiola’s stewardship and their seventh in history. Here is how they got back to Wembley for this year’s final.

January 7th, 2024: Manchester City 5-0 Huddersfield Town

City began their road to Wembley in the 3rd round and easily swept aside second-division opponents Huddersfield Town.

Phil Foden grabbed a brace while there were also goals for Julian Alvarez and Jeremy Doku. Ben Jackson also scored an own goal.

January 26, 2024: Tottenham 0-1 Manchester City

The Blues travelled to Tottenham in the next round, a ground they have struggled at in the past. They are yet to win there in the Premier League but emerged victorious in the cup.

Nathan Ake grabbed the game’s decisive goal in the 88th minute.

February 27, 2024: Luton Town 2-6 Manchester City

The Premier League opposition started coming thick and fast but City had little trouble in getting past Luton Town.

Erling Haaland scored the first in the third minute and went on to score another four before Mateo Kovacic grabbed the sixth.

March 16, 2024: Manchester City 2-0 Newcastle United

Newcastle United knocked City out of the Carabao Cup earlier in the season but City ensured lightning didn’t strike twice.

Bernardo Silva struck twice in the opening half hour to secure the win and another trip to Wembley.

April 21, 2024: Manchester City 1-0 Chelsea

City recovered from their Champions League heartbreak just a few days earlier by edging past Chelsea in the Wembley semi-final.

It was a tough match but Bernardo once again struck the winning goal to send City to the final.

What happened in last year’s FA Cup final?

This year’s FA Cup final is a repeat of last year’s final which City won 2-1 on their way to a historic treble triumph.

Ilkay Gundogan scored the opener after just 12 seconds before United levelled through a Bruno Fernandes penalty.

But former captain Gundogan scored again to ensure the trophy came home to the blue half of Manchester.

Will the same thing happen this year?
