Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on Manchester City target Arthur Vermeeren.
The Italian shared the information when writing on X (previously known as Twitter).
So, what is the latest on Arthur Vermeeren following links to Manchester City? Let’s take a look…
Arthur Vermeeren heading to Atletico Madrid
Well – according to Romano – Atletico Madrid have now reached a “verbal agreement” to sign the Belgium international from Royal Antwerp.
It comes after Graeme Bailey revealed that Manchester City had made contact with the Jupiler Pro League outfit to enquire about Vermeeren.
Romano wrote on X: “Atletico Madrid have reached verbal agreement with Antwerp to sign Belgian top talent Arthur Vermeeren! After initial €15m (£13m) package offered as revealed last week… …bid in excess of €25m (£21m) sent today. Final details then Vermeeren will join Atleti now, January.”

It comes as a real shame for Manchester City, as the 18-year-old looks set to reach the very top.
Vermeeren has already captained Royal Antwerp this season despite his age, while the precocious central midfielder also scored a crucial goal in a 3-2 UEFA Champions League win over Barcelona.
Manchester City may have moved on from Arthur Vermeeren
Manchester City might have actually taken it upon themselves to move on from Vermeeren – rather than it being a case of Txiki Begiristain losing out to Atletico Madrid.
On Tuesday, an exclusive from Bolavip in Portugal claimed that Manchester City had made contact with Porto over a deal to sign Alan Varela as a replacement for Kalvin Phillips.

Therefore, it is entirely possible that Manchester City decided to target the Argentine instead of Vermeeren this month.
Be sure to keep an eye on developments at the Etihad Stadium, as there could be further activity for Manchester City in addition to the £26m signing of Claudio Echeverri.
