James Trafford looks set to become Manchester City’s sixth signing of the summer transfer window.

Manchester City nearly missed out on Trafford but just an hour before his buy back clause was set to deactivate, the Sky Blues activated a “matching clause” and are now set to sign him for £27 million.

Newcastle United were prepared to secure the Burnley goalkeeper’s services but once City entered the fray, the 22-year-old’s heart was set on a return to the Etihad Stadium.

Trafford admitted his dream was representing Manchester City and becoming their number one in the future.

James Trafford has signed Man City contract

James Trafford looks to have successfully manifested his desire and is now set to vie for a place in Manchester City’s starting XI with Ederson.

Stefan Ortega is set to leave City as his three-season spell as a Sky Blues player will come to an end sooner rather than later.

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Trafford has signed his contract with Manchester City.

The Englishman’s deal at City is set to expire in 2030, with there being an option to extend it for an additional year until 2031.

Ashley Cole has already revealed how good James Trafford is

Ashley Cole raved about Trafford, which is exciting news for Manchester City as the former Chelsea and Arsenal left-back coached him for England’s U-21 side.

The retired defender praised the youngster’s distribution, saying: “The Euros, 21s, we really used Traff to get out to the other side.”

“He’ll wait and pause on the ball, he waits for pressure to come, more often than not, 90 per cent, he’s making the right decision.”

Joleon Lescott went on to add that Trafford is a brilliant shotstopper as well, revealing: “And when he wants to turn it on, when we were with the seniors, obviously Harry Kane and all, like elite, he must have gone, ‘Yeah, let me show you.’

Ashley Cole replied: “Oh my days!”

Trafford could be Ederson’s backup initially but the Brazilian will have to be on his toes as all the signs suggest that the Manchester City target could trounce him as the Sky Blues’ number one.

Competition is always a necessary facet at elite clubs and Pep Guardiola will be hoping that both goalkeepers drive each other on to hit new heights next season.
