Manchester City fans are delighted with the news coming out on the future of goalkeeper Ederson.
A busy transfer window looks set to step up a gear again as Manchester City are closing in on making their sixth signing of the summer.
It has been reported on Friday morning that City have reached an agreement to sign James Trafford from Burnley.
Trafford had appeared destined to join Newcastle United this summer, but the Magpies’ hesitance has proven costly as City have swooped in.
The Blues sold Trafford to Burnley in 2023 and inserted a buy-back clause in the deal, which included the right to match any offer the Clarets received for Trafford.
David Ornstein reports that City have chosen to match Newcastle’s £27m bid and the record-breaking goalkeeper has opted for an Etihad Stadium return rather than a move to the North East.
However, a further detail from Ornstein revealed that Ederson will be staying at the club rather than moving to Galatasaray.
Some fans are delighted with the news that Pep Guardiola will have two quality goalkeepers next season.

Manchester City fans react as Ederson is set to stay at the club
City have had great goalkeeping options for years, with Stefan Ortega proving himself to be one of the best back-ups in the Premier League.
However, he was never really considered as a first-choice by Guardiola, whereas Trafford will likely be directly challenging Ederson for a starting spot.
Fans have taken to X, formerly Twitter, to praise the ‘perfect scenario’ as Trafford can learn under the wing of Ederson, at least during his first season back at the club.
“This is actually perfect he can learn one or two from him,” user @iamziyed wrote.
While @MCI_violence added: “We can still keep Ederson cause he’s good at feet then Trafford can be our shot stopper sounds good to me.”
“I mean this is kinda the better scenario to be fair,” added @Hermesito1303.
However, some fans are concerned that Ederson is staying and could remain first choice next season after his difficult campaign last term.
User @mcfcIEo_ complained: “So we’ve essentially spent £27M on a backup goalkeeper when we had a good enough one for free (despite not being willing to improve our £65M bid for Livramento) and we’ll still be stuck with the same Ederson that caused us all those problems last year, all for a homegrown spot?”
Many others hope to see Trafford starting games, with @ptrMCFC adding: “Trafford will rotate with Ederson but I hope he does good and takes the spot for the CL matches…”
Ederson even admitted he had a poor season and needs to improve.
Ederson and James Trafford decisions could see Stefan Ortega leave Man City
With Trafford arriving and Ederson staying, City will have an overload in the goalkeeper department.
Scott Carson was released at the start of the summer, but he was replaced as third-choice with Chelsea’s Marcus Bettinelli.
Trafford’s arrival will mean there are four senior goalkeepers at the club, an untenable situation.
As a result, as Ornstein reports, it’s likely the end of Ortega’s time at City.
Ortega will always be remembered for his title-clinching save against Tottenham in 2024 and served admirably as a quality backup.
The German probably didn’t get the chances to take Ederson’s spot he deserved at City, but will surely not be short of suitors.
