With just one year left on his contract at Manchester City, Ederson Moraes’ future at the Etihad Stadium is up in the air.
Incoming sporting director Hugo Viana’s priority is to extend Ederson’s contract but so far, there have been no indications suggesting that the Brazilian international will prolong his love affair with City.
So much so that Manchester City have reportedly told Ederson to leave and find a new club ahead of the following season.
But Ederson remains Pep Guardiola’s go-to man in between the sticks, which shows that his potential exit would be a major blow to the Catalan tactician.
Ederson is expected to start against Tottenham as well, with Stefan Ortega seemingly not earned Guardiola’s trust yet.

But beyond this season, Manchester City supporters will be curious to discover whether the club are planning to move forward with their legendary goalkeeper in between the sticks.

Ederson likely to leave Manchester City this summer
Jamie Carragher slated Ederson and urged City to replace him, as the 31-year-old has faltered quite a few times this season.
Manchester City seem to agree with the Liverpool legend as Ederson is likely to bid farewell to the Premier League champions this summer — according to Fabrizio Romano.
Romano said on his official YouTube channel: “What I’m hearing is also for Ederson, there is a concrete possibility to go in the summer, he was close to Saudi last year, then the deal collapsed but now Ederson remains one of the players who could leave the club in the summer transfer window.”
Pep Guardiola revealed Ederson could have left last summer but the “real reason” why he was not sold is because none of the offers that were submitted to sign him were deemed worthy to follow through with.
Interestingly, Ederson expressed his desire to stay at Manchester City for a few “more years” after his side beat Manchester United in the FA Community Shield.
Ederson disclosed that Guardiola convinced him to stay as well.
But the six-time Premier League winner’s future seems to have undergone a dramatic shift since then.
City already have a replacement in mind for Ederson.
Man City already have an Ederson replacement in mind
Journalist Santi Aouna has claimed that Diogo Costa has been identified as the Sky Blues’ ideal replacement for the former Benfica number one.
Aouna wrote on X: “Manchester City’s priority to replace Ederson next summer is Diogo Costa from FC Porto.”
Manchester City’s interest in Diogo Costa has been a longstanding one as they were linked with his signature in October as well.
The aforementioned report has claimed that City value the Porto goalkeeper at a fee of £42 million.
Costa, much like Ederson is comfortable on the ball and capable of playing in a possession-based side.
While Manchester City fans may be disappointed at the potential sight of witnessing such a club legend leave, it seems like the decision-makers at the Etihad Stadium are putting sentiments aside to rebuild the squad for the future.
