Manchester City are out of the Carabao Cup, losing 1-0 to Newcastle United.

City dominated the ball at St. James’ Park, but just couldn’t breach Newcastle’s defence.

Alexander Isak grabbed the only goal of the game.

He struck early in the second-half, with the Magpies much improved after the break.

Guardiola made a string of changes as expected, and there was a lively performance from youngster Oscar Bobb, who received praise from City legend Shaun Goater.

City came up short tonight, but there were positives to take.

And it was another strong display from Matheus Nunes…

It was Mateo Kovacic and Kalvin Phillips as the holding duo, with the Portuguese on the bench.

Nunes came on with around 25 minutes to go.

And he got straight into the game taking the ball past players and running into the channels.

At one point, it looked as though Nunes was going to grab his first City goal when he was played in.

But he was denied by an incredible block by the outstanding Tino Livramento.

After the game, City legend Paul Dickov ensure Nunes got some praising, saying of the 25-year-old (Matchday Live): “I thought Matheus Nunes was fantastic when he came on.”

Matheus Nunes was a positive tonight

Tonight’s result was frustrating, but Nunes was definitely a positive.

The star really looks to be at home in a City shirt.

The desire to look and drive forwards is really nice to see, and he came within a whisker of grabbing his first goal, but for some outstanding defending.

Nunes definitely didn’t do his starting prospects any harm this evening.
