Manchester City have made just the one signing so far this summer in Savinho.

Manchester City fans haven’t seen a great deal happen on the incoming front this time around, although a number of players have left the Etihad, with Julian Alvarez the highest-profile departure.

The Argentine has joined Atletico Madrid in an £82 million deal.

Savinho signed last month for a £33 million fee, and after missing the club’s pre-season tour of the US to get sorted, he made his debut against Manchester United in the Community Shield last weekend.

It was a lively first showing from Savinho, and fans are now even more excited to watch him in action this term.

City have had a number of Brazilians at the club in recent years, and arguably the club’s best ever, Fernandinho has now given Savinho one very important piece of advice.

Savinho is a very exciting capture by City.

Last season, he was a big reason why Girona were able to finish third in La Liga, and secure Champions League football for the first time ever.

Savinho offered glimpses of what he is all about during his 27 minutes against United on Saturday, and everything points to him being another superb addition.

Shortly after signing for the club, Savinho received a call from City legend and former captain Fernandinho.

The 39-year-old established himself as a firm favourite with the fans during his time at the club, and he told Savinho what he could do to help his cause.

He said (via mancity.com): “Tell me something, do you have any knowledge of English or anything like that?”

Savinho: “Speaking English?”

Fernandinho: “Understanding, speaking?”

Savinho: “I mean, I understand a lot you know. Sometimes I get shy to speak and all but I’m starting to take classes and in about five months I think I’ll be speaking already.”

Fernandinho: “That’s the most important. So you can talk too, right? I think trying to immerse in the culture is important. We want you to stay a long time at City to bring us joy.”

Great advice from Fernandinho

So City fans got to see Savinho in action for the first time on Saturday and it was a good start from the youngster.

It’s very possible City have signed a potential superstar, and it’s really good to see Fernandinho reaching out to his compatriot.

After giving him the advice of immersing himself in the culture at City, Fernandinho also says to Savinho to call him if he has any problems which is a lovely touch from the former captain.

He also urges Savinho to talk to Ederson, and the likes of Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias who speak the same language, adding ‘the most important thing is for you to feel happy’. He then tells Savinho that he will be watching him every weekend.

Fernandinho was a great captain for City and he continues to show what a great person he is even after leaving the club years ago.
