Manchester City have been one of the most successful teams in England over the past decade and a half.
During that time, City have lifted a plethora of trophies including eight Premier League titles, three FA Cups, six League Cups and the Champions League as well as two other major European accolades.
This showcases not only how well the club have been run since the 2008 Abu Dhabi takeover but also the impressive crop of players that have represented City in that time.
With Pep Guardiola’s side now aiming to bring a fifth consecutive league title to the Etihad Stadium, one pundit and former top-flight star has heaped praise on one particular figure who played a big role in seeing the Manchester club become as successful as they have been.

Gabby Agbonlahor names Vincent Kompany as his hardest opponent
When asked on talkSPORT (3/10 8:58 AM) who the hardest opponent he ever faced in his playing career was, Agbonlahor said this in response.
He said: “Hardest player? That’s a tough one. You had some tough defenders, didn’t you, like [Vincent] Kompany [who] was hard, aggressive.
“I’d say aggressive-wise – Kompany, as a centre-half. Big guy, very, very good player.”
How many times did Agbonlahor play against Kompany?
During his time as a player, Agbonlahor made 402 senior club appearances, 391 of which came for Aston Villa where he scored 86 goals and delivered 54 assists in the process.
Against Kompany, who spent 11 years at the Manchester club between 2008 and 2019, the former striker appeared in seven games between the 2008/09 and the 2015/16 seasons.
Out of those seven games, City won six and lost one, scoring 22 goals and conceding three along the way.
Agbonlahor isn’t the only talkSPORT pundit and former Premier League striker to share how hard they found playing against the former City captain, as Troy Deeney named Kompany as one of the best defenders he ever came up against back in August.
Back in 2022, the Belgian was included in the second group of eight former top-flight players to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame, putting him alongside other ex-defenders such as Tony Adams, John Terry and Rio Ferdinand who were all put in after Kompany.
This further increases the former City star’s status as one of the best players in Premier League history in addition to Agbonlahor naming him as his hardest individual opponent.
