Manchester City secured their first Champions League win of the season on Tuesday night.
Their first European clash of the campaign saw City draw 0-0 against Inter Milan at the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola’s side then followed that up by beating Slovan Bratislava 4-0 away from home.
As the scoreline suggests, this match ended up being a rather one-sided affair, with the Blues having 76% possession and 28 attempts at goal in total.
This win saw City equal Manchester United’s all-time record of having the longest unbeaten streak in the Champions League (25 games).
This has since led to one pundit sharing some significant praise for one of City’s star performers on the night.

Gary Lineker hails Phil Foden after Champions League display
While reflecting on City’s win over Bratislava in a recent edition of The Rest Is Football, Gary Lineker had this to say about Phil Foden and his efforts in the game.
He said: “Good to see Phil Foden get a goal. I mean, he had a tough summer in a way, even though England went all the way to the final.
“You know, you think, will it affect his confidence? But he’s such a talent and such a brilliant footballer that it was good to see him on the team sheet.
“It’s worth pointing out, he was ill for a couple of weeks as well at the start of the season. So it’s not like he’s been left out or anything like that. He’s just coming back. He’s quality, he’s a class footballer.”
What did Guardiola say about Foden after the win against Bratislava?
In addition to scoring City’s second goal of the night and his first of the season, Foden also assisted James McAtee’s goal later on in the match.
The 24-year-old made three key passes in total and registered five shots at goal before being taken off for Jack Grealish in the 78th minute.
After the match in Slovakia, Guardiola told the media that while he was pleased with Foden’s goal, the midfielder still has a way to go before he is back to his best.
Now that Lineker has shared how pleased he is to see last season’s Premier League Player of the Season make such a positive impact in what was just his second start of the campaign across all competitions, this will hopefully give Foden the confidence to carry on in this vein of form.
