Gary Lineker says ‘incredible’ Man City player has been ‘unlucky’ at Euro 2024

The upcoming final of the 2024 European Championship could see a handful of Manchester City players involved.

Specifically, after Rodri’s Spain beat France 2-1 in the first semi-final match, England overcame the Netherlands with help from Kyle Walker, John Stones and Phil Foden to set up Sunday’s mouth-watering final.

After the semi-final matches were completed, a pundit, who knows what it takes to play on the international stage at a high level, highlighted one of those four City players for what he got up to in his latest appearance of the tournament.

Gary Lineker says Phil Foden was so unlucky against the Netherlands

While reflecting on England’s 2-1 win over the Netherlands in a recent episode of The Rest Is Football, Gary Lineker had this to say about Foden and what he did on the pitch.

He said: “First half, I thought, really good football. Foden was unlucky. [The] ‘keeper made a good save. Incredible shot that hit the woodwork. The clearance off the line, all from Foden.”

Foden will be dying to get on the scoresheet

Having started all six of England’s matches in this summer’s tournament, the City star has been unable to score a goal or provide an assist for the Three Lions.

This may have surprised many England supporters given how the midfielder found the back of the net 27 times in 53 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side last season.

In the recent win over the Netherlands, Foden, who Declan Rice described as being the definition of elegance, had three shots at goal in total, one of which hit the woodwork, as Lineker mentioned.

With only Harry Kane (16) having registered more shots at goal in the England squad than Foden (12), it’s undeniable that the six-time Premier League champion will be desperate to get his name on the scoresheet in Sunday’s final and hopefully secure the trophy for the Three Lions.
