John Stones had a rather disappointing previous season with Manchester City.

Having struggled with injury issues, the centre-back only appeared in 16 Premier League games, 12 of which he started.

Despite only featuring in two of City’s 10 final league games of the season, the 30-year-old was still picked to be in England’s squad for the 2024 European Championship.

In fact, Stones is one of the three outfield players, alongside Kyle Walker and Declan Rice, to play every minute of action for the Three Lions in the tournament ahead of Sunday’s final against Spain.

This has since led to one journalist sharing some significant praise for the City star and what he’s done with the Three Lions in Germany, which quickly led to one big-name pundit sharing his thoughts on the matter.

Gary Lineker agrees with journalist’s John Stones verdict

After journalist Henry Winter shared a post on his X account saying that Stones has had an “outstanding” tournament with England, followed by some extra details about the defender, Gary Lineker quote-tweeted a response with the word “agreed.”

Stones has been a key figure for England

Earlier in the tournament, Harry Kane also heaped praise on the centre-half by describing him as a “clever” player and highlighted how much he has improved his game over the years.

In addition to having the highest percentage of accurate passes (94.6%) in the England squad out of players who have started more than one game, Stones has also made more clearances (14) than any other player in the squad.

This shows how effective he has been for the Three Lions on and off the ball, playing a key role in getting them to their first final of a major tournament on foreign soil.

Moving forward, if Stones can help England beat Spain and win the tournament, this will undoubtedly be a big positive for the defender after not having the best individual campaign with City last season.
