Gary Neville has said that Kyle Walker would have been in his Team of The Year.

However, the Manchester City defender was not a part of EA FC 24’s candidates.

As a result, Gary Neville admitted that he was “stunned” that was the case as he lauded how key Kyle Walker was for City last year on Sky Sports (via YouTube).

Gary Neville says Kyle Walker was the best right-back in the world in 2023

Recently, Alan Shearer emphasised that even now, the £50 million (Guardian) man remains an “integral” member of this Sky Blues side.

In December, Tottenham Hotspur winger Brennan Johnson described the Englishman as an “unbelievable defender”, which goes to show how much respect he continues to command at 33 years of age.

Gary Neville claimed that it was a shock that Kyle Walker was not included amongst the best right-backs as he believes he was the standout performer in his position last year.

“I think we just need to stop on that for a second, I’m absolutely bamboozled as to why Kyle Walker is not in, even in contention to be one of the best right-backs in the last 12 months”, he said on Sky Sports.

“With what Manchester City have done with the games he’s had and the way in which he’s played, the consistency, he’s been a rock for Manchester City. He had a little bit of, I think a slow start to the year but honestly, I’m stunned that he’s not in the top right-backs.”

Kyle Walker should stroll into the Team of The Year

Gary Neville is spot on, in our view as Kyle Walker was especially crucial for Manchester City last year.

Against Real Madrid in both legs of the Champions League semi-final especially, the former Spurs right-back managed to minimise the impact of a winger of Vinicius Junior’s calibre.

The Sheffield-born defender also managed to win the treble, as he was extremely key to the Sky Blues in all of their triumphs, managing to keep Manchester United speedster Marcus Rashford quiet during the FA Cup final as well.

While this season, Walker has been solid, if not spectacular for City, remaining a consistent presence once again.

When considering how right-backs have performed in Europe across the entirety of last year, it is virtually impossible to look past Kyle Walker as the best player in his position.
