Pep Guardiola is now in the midst of his ninth season in charge of Manchester City.

Having arrived at the Etihad Stadium back in 2016, the Spaniard has now spent longer managing City than he did with Barcelona and Bayern Munich combined.

Prior to Saturday’s Premier League match between City and Fulham, the 53-year-old has overlooked 482 matches across all competitions, winning 356, drawing 60 and losing 66.

With Guardiola guiding his side to multiple domestic and European trophies during his time at the club, there can be no denying that he has had a successful period in charge of the Blues and is one of the best managers in the world.

In terms of players used at the club, Guardiola has deployed 90 in total to represent the Citizens.

Now – however – one pundit and former top-flight manager has shared a claim about how the City boss will be regretting what has happened to one of those 90 players he’s seen play for him at the club.

Graeme Souness shares how Pep Guardiola will be feeling about Cole Palmer

In a recent column for the Daily Mail, Graeme Souness had this to say on the subject of Cole Palmer and how Guardiola will feel about him and his City exit.

He said: “Pep will have realised by now that Palmer was one he should have kept, and the player seems to have been spurred on by having to accept that City didn’t fancy him enough to do what they had to do to keep him.”

How has Cole Palmer fared since leaving Man City?

After working his way through City’s academy and making 41 senior appearances for the Blues, making him one of the many players Guardiola has given a senior debut to at the club, Palmer joined Chelsea during the 2023 summer transfer window in a deal worth £42.5m (via BBC Sport).

Since joining the West London club, the 22-year-old has scored 31 goals and delivered 19 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions.

Souness isn’t the only former Liverpool player to speak about this particular situation, as Jamie Carragher said that Guardiola made the wrong decision in allowing Palmer to leave City permanently.

While the former City youth graduate has undoubtedly been a success at Chelsea, Guardiola will be more focused on the players he currently has in his City squad and getting them in the position to potentially win more silverware this season.
