Man City boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Phil Foden, who was sidelined against Wolves through injury is getting better, ahead of his side’s FA Cup clash against Arsenal on Friday.
Guardiola delivers Foden injury update ahead of Arsenal clash
Since the return of club football, the 22-year-old, tipped to win the Ballon d’Or by Michael Owen has been on the periphery of things, with Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish emerging as the side’s go-to pair out wide.
While largely having a quality season, sporadic starts have meant that the crown jewel of the Sky Blues academy has had a stop-start campaign.
With City battering Wolves 3-0 as well, the England international was deemed unavailable for the clash with a foot injury.
As Man City prepare to take on Arsenal in the FA Cup on Friday, Pep Guardiola has delivered an injury update about Phil Foden.
“He’s [Phil Foden] getting better. We train this afternoon. Everyone else is good”, Guardiola told Manchester Evening News’ Joe Bray, ahead of the Arsenal clash in his latest press conference.
Foden needs to fight his way back into the starting XI upon return
With the Premier League champions having world-class options galore in the middle of the park, the Stockport-born wonderkid has been unable to play in his natural midfield position.
As a result, his rise has come out on the wing.
While an injury means Phil Foden will be unavailable against Arsenal, he must ensure that he gets into Guardiola’s good books upon his return.
Both Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish have been massive contributors to the side’s success after the restart and with the club looking to mount a serious title challenge, it is unlikely that the Spanish manager will chop and change when it comes to the in-form pair.
After witnessing his teammates try to beat Arsenal in the FA Cup, Phil Foden should be driven to become a regular starter under Pep Guardiola again after he returns from injury.
